A clinic for ALL members! We are hosting a Clean and Jerk and Snatch Clinic led by weightlifting level 1 coach, Robert Voldase. Robert recently completed the Burgener Strength Weightlifting Course to gain an in-depth knowledge of two foundational CrossFit movements, Clean & Jerk and Snatch – the core foundation of CrossFit. Want to become comfortable with the Clean & Jerk and Snatch? Or just want to tweak your technique? If so, then this is right up your ally.
The clinic will break down each lift and teach you the skills to perform the movements safely, effectively and efficiently. You’ll receive a strong understanding of the foundations and get personalized tips based on your existing form and natural movement.
Outline of the Day:
- 10min: Introduction
- 15min: We will start with a basic warm up
- 15min: PVC pipe positioning
- 15min: Burgener warm up
- 20min: Movement with barbell (day 1 – cleans, day 2 – snatch)
- 20min: Focus on Movement(split jerk or technique)
- 25min: Barbell work
A clinic for ALL members:
- The BEGINNER lifter will learn the correct technique as a solid foundation.
- The INTERMEDIATE lifter will also learn fault correction for any areas of their lifts they can improve on.
- The ADVANCED lifter will also learn exercises that will improve their max. lifts and create a deeper understanding of biomechanics and lever lengths, which will improve their performance overall.

Class Format and Workouts
The kick-off session on Monday, February will have you go through a series of small workouts designed to create a benchmark so at the end of the 6 week program we can celebrate the success you have made. From that point on the workouts held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays vary from week to week. Every class will include warm-ups, stretching and a cool down at the end. The workouts are designed for all athletic abilities and fitness levels. This means that even a programmed workout can be tailored to your specific. This can mean changing the amount of weight or doing modified exercises to fit your personal needs. The goal of every workout is to challenge you at the point you are at that time.

151 Fitness Challenge – Winners Announced!
Congratulations to Todd Walker and Katy Davis, 151’s 2015 Fitness Challenge Winners. Both Todd and Katy tallied up the largest number of points by watching their diet, staying committed to coming to classes regularly and added strength! Great job to all those who entered!
151 Members Only Oly Comp 2015
9am – Noon, Saturday, February 7
$10 per person
A fun in-house comp to test your snatch and clean & jerk skills. Results will be based on body weight and percentage lifted to ensure all athletes are on an even playing field for this competition.
Athlete will weigh in and be given 3 attempts at each lift. The heaviest lift will be the athlete’s score.
After all athletes complete the Snatch, the same order will be used for the Clean & Jerk.
The male & female who lift the highest percentage of their body weight will be crowned 151’s King & Queen! Prizes for first place only. This is a great way to push yourself amongst your 151 family.

1) Ask a coach to watch your 30 Seconds of ME (Max Effort) Hand Release Push-Ups & Air Squats (Optional ME Pull-Ups)
2) Email your current weight & ME results to CrossFit151@gmail.com by EOD 1/26/15. We recommend taking a before and after photo to track your progress.
3) Get to 151 as often as possible between now and March 15th and log your WOD results. Each workout logged into Wodify = 1 pt.
4) Earn more points by each pound lost. One pound lost = 1pt.

Join your friends and/or family members that have been talking to you about CrossFit since they’ve joined. Friends & Family week will take place the week of November 18. Everyone is welcome to attend all workouts. As with any CrossFit workout the exercises can be scaled to fit all fitness levels.

CrossFit Kids is Back
There are three main areas kids gain from CrossFit:
- Physical Benefits – CrossFit is great for kids because of the wide variety of disciplines it involves, from weightlifting to calisthenics to gymnastics. The more kids can be exposed to a variety of disciplines when they are young, the more connections and increased capacities they develop and retain for the rest of their lives.
- Emotional Benefits – Kids work on sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, listening skills, self-discipline and manners. These are all skills, though not physical, that will help kids become successful later in life.

Tickets Now Available for CrossFit Regionals: May 31 – June 2
Although the CrossFit Open may already seem like a distance memory, the next stage is just getting started. The Regionals are the semi-final round for the CrossFit Games season. The top 48 men and women and top 30 teams from each region in the Open will be invited to compete in a live three day competition.
Our region is represented in the North Central Region and will compete in Chicago at Navy Pier. A number of CrossFit 151 members and trainers are planning to attend to cheer on these athletes.

CrossFit 151 Body Transformation Challenge: April 15 – May 15
JOIN US FOR THE 151 BODY TRANSFORMATION CHALLENGE!
Interested members need to take a “before” picture by Tuesday, April 16th. On May 15th we will take the “after” photo. Judging will be based on the person who has made the biggest transformation. Not just who has the biggest muscles or who lost the most weight, but biggest overall improved transformation. This will take a combination of healthy eating and a huge effort in the gym. Paleo/healthy eating information is available at 151.

First Month “buzz”
CrossFit 151 is having a great time becoming an established CrossFit affiliate in Marion, Iowa. Our members have been unbelievable, they are not only supportive they rock every WOD thrown at them. We are still in our first month “high” so now is a great time to become involved as we are building this affiliate around our members and what matters most to them.
